Apiary Tours

Apiary Tours

Starting in the Spring of 2025, Hood Brook Apiary in Pittsfield, Maine, and Hood Brook Apiary at The Funny Farm in Vassalboro, Maine will offer Apiary and Farm Tours.  Neither location is a big, fancy, commercial farm or apiary.  Simply family-run operations by people who love what they do and always do what is best for the bees and animals they care for every day.

 Rules for Both Locations:

Don’t feed the animals if there are any at the location you are at. Ask the guide if you can feed and how to do it without accidentally getting bit.

Don’t approach the hives without protective gear!

DO NOT be wearing any of the following: Scented hair spray, shampoo, perfume, deodorant, aftershave, or anything else that may make the bee attracted to you thinking you are food. They won’t be happy when they find out you aren’t!

Don’t wander! Stay with the guide.

NO SMOKING anywhere on the tour!

Take your trash with you!

The landowners reserve the right to cancel or withhold tours at their discretion.

Farm animals and bees, though usually pretty harmless, but they are animals, and they can be unpredictable. According to State Law, the farm and its owners ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE for Injuries. Click here for Maine Statute Information.

Locations:

The two locations are about 35 to 40 minutes apart.  They are:

Hood Brook Apiary & Learning Center, Pittsfield, ME.

This is our office, home and main location.  I guess you could say this is where it all began, here with our namesake “Hood Brook” starting and running through our property. However, we have relocated all but 2 hives to the Funny Farm location.  So, if lots of bees worry you, this location only has 2 hives and isn’t so overwhelming. There are no other animals at this location except Jingle, our cat, who likes to think he is the boss.

Hood Brook Apiary at The Funny Farm, Vassalboro, ME.

This is our secondary location which, at the moment, has more bees than the home location.  This is also a working farm with chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, beef cattle, and, of course, cats and dogs. It is owned and operated by Ethan and Charlene Noll.
