Hood Brook Apiary wants to help those interested in beekeeping become beekeepers. It’s not something that you just go out and buy what you need, put the bees in, and then they deliver honey to your door. It takes work, time, patience, the proper gear, and at least basic beekeeping knowledge. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself losing hive after hive! That isn’t cheap!
Bee School at Hood Brook Apiary is a bit different. If you like big halls or classroom settings with large groups of students, that isn’t us. We are hobby beekeepers who have been beekeeping for over 15 years.
We don’t profess to be Beekeeping Geniuses or better than anyone else. We are down-to-earth, easygoing, and eager to help others become beekeepers. We feel the best way to do this is hands-on in a small setting.
We have a couple of different offerings for our Bee School. They are as follows:
With the Online Learning option, we will put together information topic by topic online that is downloadable if you wish. These informational classes may include pictures and/or YouTube videos. Unfortunately, online learning won’t expose you to live beekeeping and hives until you have yours up and running. But, it’s a good way to get a pretty good idea of what is involved and what you need to do.
Online Learning is projected to start in late January of 2025.
This option provides live, hands-on lessons for just you, or it can be both you and your partner, or another family member (up to 2 people). Some classes will be discussion and video viewing. Others will be in the field at one of our two locations actively inspecting colonies or other apiary-related learning.
This option consists of 4 to 6 people who may or may not know each other. This option offers the same as Personalized Learning but with a slightly larger group who may or may not know each other.
